Permit'due south recap the first two steps in creating "Old Business firm" character and amuse in your newer habitation…

Step 1: Add wood ceilings.

Step 2: Supercede your builder's grade doors with paneled doors.

And now to the next pace!

Step 3:

Replace your builder'due south form

low-cal fixtures with ones that

possess more character and

charm!

For instance, wait at this beautiful kitchen!  First of all, detect those fabulous wood ceilings.  Okay, now look at the lights!  I phone call those "school firm" lights, although I am sure they take some other name.  They add so much charm to that kitchen, don't ya think?!

The dreaded "boob" light!

(Yep, wait at it.  You know I'm right.) Smile

Raise your paw if y'all accept a "boob" light or ii in  your house.   Come up on, don't be ashamed.  Ain it!

I have some of these lights in my home, but slowly and surely, I am going to modify them out.

Now really, there is nothing horribly wrong with these lights, merely they certainly practice not possess much amuse and character.

So I would like to declare 2012, "The Year of De-Boobing!"

Will you bring together me?

Now don't go getting' a screw driver today and kickoff taking all your "boobs" downwards. Your husband volition come home and call up you've lost your mind, and he will not like me much either!  He may want to keep the "boobs." (I am and so deplorable, I just couldn't help myself.)

Have your fourth dimension de-boobing.  Look around for the right light fixture to take its place before you start removing them.

Maybe you could score a cute light at a ReStore store or thrift shop.

I got this ugly brass calorie-free at my Habitat store for $3.00!

I cut the curly-que thingys off and spray painted it blackness for our previous laundry room.

Information technology added sooo much character to our laundry room!  (And and then did that bead board ceiling!) Smile mud room

And so much more character than a "boob" light would accept.

And it was but $three.00!!

Whenever y'all see a brass low-cal at Goodwill or a yard sale, and you similar the shape of it, REMEMBER it tin be painted!!!

My friend, Melissa, from 320 Sycamore had this very dated calorie-free in her entry way.

She scored a $v.00 contumely light off of Craigslist and painted information technology black.  Here information technology is…

Doesn't it look then much better than what she originally had?!  And it looks an atrocious-lot similar this i from Pottery Barn, doesn't it?

Just Melissa's was only five bucks!  BIG difference!  You can cheque her post out HERE.

Lanterns are very "in" right at present, and I am so glad.  I think they are beautiful, peculiarly in a kitchen.

Chandeliers are too reminiscent of the past and add together a wealth of charm to a room.

These can get very expensive.  I've been looking for an sometime ane for a while now, but they have been out of my cost range.

But I'thou gonna proceed on looking!

Although chandeliers look neat over a dining tabular array, why not change out the "puppet" light over your bed for a chandelier?

Unfortunately, I am not an skillful in low-cal fixtures that were used in older homes, merely at that place are many companies out there that sell light fixtures from all different time periods and decorating styles.  Only google, "antiquarian lighting" and see what comes upward.

Here are a few more than pictures I found online of some of my favorite types of light fixtures.

So at that place you lot have it!

I desire  you to take a bout around your home today and run across how much de-boobing you are going to need to do.  And then kickoff thinking about what blazon of light fixture would look better in the "boob's" place.

Don't exit and start buying a bunch of expensive light fixtures.  Wait until they go on sale, or maybe y'all will find one at a austerity store that you can pigment.

Be creative!

I would have to say that likewise painting a room, changing the light fixtures tin can make the side by side biggest difference in the experience of a room.
